May 23 - Seth Godin Live in Silicon Valley 2007 was a great success!
About 200 people attended the event to see Seth Godin live at the Santa Clara Convention Center including registered guests, VIPs, sponsors and volunteers. Seth’s presentation was fantastic and the audience loved him! The event ran really smoothly overall and I think Seth had a great time too.
It was also a very special day for me because that was my first time meeting Seth after weeks of email exchange and months of listening to his voice (audio programs). I listened to him pretty much everyday during my run; but it was weird when I finally got to meet the person behind the voice.
Seth exuberated great energy and charisma. He was very friendly, sincere and he asked me a couple of times “What can I do to help you?” I wasn’t expecting him to ask me that, but it was nice to know that he cares. J
Seth had “The Dip” presentation down to a tee which included tons of fun facts and amazing pictures. His exceptional delivery and remarkable message resonates with me very much. Here are some key messages I took away from Seth’s presentation that night:
Be the best YOU can be.
Decide to stop being average.
Have the guts quit on tasks that don’t matter.
Embrace the Dip. Swallow your pride & ego.
Focus & be the best YOU can be.
Life is like a buffet.
Imagine you pay a hundred dollars for the world’s most amazing buffet. There are appetizers, salads, soups, main courses and desserts. You can’t wait to eat it all to get your money worth. The dishes all look so good and amazing. You want to eat them all. But wait… There is a problem. Your stomach can only hold so much food. If you eat too much, it will make you sick. You need to be selective. You need to pick the best dishes in the house. Focus on the best dishes first so you and your stomach can both enjoy this great experience.
You need a strategy. You need to find a way that you can identify the best dishes in the house. The issue is that the look of the dish doesn’t always guarantee the taste. Many dishes look great from the outside but when you actually bite into them they may not be so tasty. If you choose the wrong dish, you have a choice. You can either just down it or spit it out. It takes courage to spit it out. You probably will get some dirty looks from the buffet line and feel embarrassed. They might think you are crazy and wasting food. But don’t forget that you are eating this buffet for you, not for anyone else.
The food won’t run away, but there are other people in the buffet line. If you don’t decide quickly some of the best dishes might be gone. But also don’t forget your plate is only so big and you need to finish one dish before you can come back for another one.
Life is like a buffet.
There are many things you want to achieve; thousands of things. They all look so exciting. You want to conquer them all. You can’t wait to accomplish everything, but you only have so much time, energy and brain power.
What do you do now?
You need to take one bite at a time.
Focus on what you have in front of you now. To truly enjoy the food you can’t put too much in your mouth. Your stomach needs to slowly digest it. Focus on one dish at a time and get the most of each dish.
To truly enjoy your amazing life journey, you need to focus on and pay full attention to what you have in front of you right now. Allow your mind, body and soul to completely submerge into this one thing. Allow yourself to get the most out of it. Allow yourself to truly taste it.
When you finish the first dish no one will stop you from getting your second, third or fourth servings. Get one thing done and then come get your second serving as soon as you can.
You better watch out
You better not cry
You better not pout
I’m telling you why
Seth Godin is coming to town
Seth Godin is coming to town
Seth Godin is coming to town
Is it already that time of year? Yes, except this time it’s not Santa, it’s Seth and he’s 7 months early!
For those of you who live in the San Francisco Bay Area, tomorrow night Wed 5/23 you’re in for a treat. The past few weeks have been an amazing experience for Deepika and I. Within a very short period of time, we managed to pull together hundreds of people, found and booked an amazing venue, brought together an awesome team of volunteers, publisher and sponsors and put together this amazing event.
As much as I love Seth, The Purple Cow and The Big Moo, this event is not just about him or his remarkable new book. It’s about the community, the fans and the supporters of him and his mind. I truly believe every single attendee loves Seth and wants to be here because they want to meet the face behind the remarkable ideas.
I am very proud to co-host and present Seth in Silicon Valley.
To Seth, Deepika, Rajesh, Bala, Aditya, Ian, Alwin (Google), Val (KDFC), Pam and Cynthia (Kepler’s book): Thank you for this amazing event and for the incredible experience of pulling this together.
You are not 100% satisfied. You are not on top of your game. You know you want more but you don’t really know what you want.
Is that you?
You know what you don’t want. But you don’t know what you really want.
That was me for a very long time.
For years I was working in the software and consulting industries, I got exposure to so many different situations and slowly learned what I didn’t like. I didn’t want to do that again. I didn’t like to be that person. There were countless number of things that I didn’t want, but I did not have a clue what I truly wanted. Is that you? You feel stuck and exhausted. You are exhausted from doing things that you don’t really have heart for. You don’t know why you are doing it. You are stressed out but you don’t have a way out.
Is that how you feel?
First of all, before we drill into ways to identify what you really want, you need to know one thing.
You are in complete control of your life.
How can this be? It can be and it is. The quality of your life is simply determined by your own perception of life. Think about it. Many poor children in Africa would love to have your life right now. While you are struggling with what you want, they are just struggling to survive. You are in complete control of your life. All you need to do right now is to find what you want.
Here is what you should do:
Ladies and gentlemen. That is what you really want! That is it.
It is not that hard to find out what you really want if you really want to be happy and be true to yourself. My number one “want” right now is to achieve one million visitors per month by March 15th, 2008.
How about you?

I had a wonderful time at the Live seminar last Friday. The seminar took place in the Sacramento Convention Center. We started our journey at about seven in the morning and it took us about 90 minutes to get there.
There were about 500 people there and I was a little bit surprise there weren’t more people. I was so looking forward to seeing Brian as that was the first time I’ve ever seen him speak live after years of listening to his audio program. We sat in the first row just to make sure we didn’t miss anything. J
’s presentation was everything I expected plus more. The focus of his presentation was on selling, but I was most drawn towards his discussion around the mindset of successful people. His content and advice were extremely impactful. He had great humor. His personal stories were touching. Every single word from Brian’s month was full of wisdom and depth.
Some of the Brian’s key lessons included:
The more you respect yourself, the more other people like you.
Your emotion is determined by how you interpret the world.
Successful people take action immediately.
If you do the right thing in a wrong order, it could kill you.
You become what you think about most of the time. Why not all the time? Because most young men would become young women if there is the case. J
You never see a negative baby.
You can lose your job, but don’t lose your mind.
The bigger the gift, the bigger the problem.
Fly with the eagles, not ducks.
Everything is a learnable skill.
Most people waste too much time looking for shortcuts.
Saddest words in life: “If only I have taken that step…”
Brian also had us wrote down our top 10 most important goals in 3 minutes. It was a very short exercise, but it was extremely impactful. Accordingly to Brian, it would not make a difference either we had 3 minutes or 30 minutes, the answers would be the same. Then he asked us to prioritize these goals and pick the top 3 most important ones. After finished picking the top three, he asked us to pick again, but this time only one goal which is the most important. When we were done picking the most important one, he said “Now, this is your life purpose for this coming year. Take action towards your goal everyday.”
I was astonished that he has decided that my life purpose for this year is my top goal. “It is easy for you to say…” I thought to myself. But the more I think about it, he was right. If I don’t put my top goal as my life purpose right now, how good is the goal? How commit I would be?
I highly recommend Brian Tracy to anyone who wants to improve themselves and become more effective in life. You can find out more about him at .
