How to Maintain a Positive Attitude

Things happen in life. Good things and bad things. Sometimes you can control them and sometimes you cannot. But I know there is one thing you can always control for sure and that is your attitude.
Not your friend’s attitude nor your family’s attitude. But your own attitude.

Attitude is like your spiritual and mental clothing. It can either keep you warm or cold. When the weather is cold, you put on warmer clothes and thicker jacket. When it is hot, you might put on short sleeves or a short skirt. You don’t attempt to change the weather. You change your clothes to adapt to the weather.

You can choose to be happy. You can choose to be sad. It is all up to you. Either way your environment is not going to change because of you, but how you feel about your environment is totally up to you.

You decide how to react. It is not what happens to you that counts. It is how you react to what happens to you that truly matters.

Here are a few things you can do to maintain a positive attitude:

Decide to Be Positive
First of all, you need to decide you can be positive and you want to feel good. Life is too short for sadness or negativity. You know good will come to you and there is no reason not to be happy. Haven’t you ever met someone who is just so charming and positive that the minute he/she walks in the room immediately lights up? You can be that person too.

Look For the Good
Dr. Norman Vincent Peale once said, “Whenever God wants to give us a gift, he wraps it up in a problem.” The bigger the gift you have coming, the bigger the problem you will receive. But the wonderful thing is that if you look for the gift, you will always find it. Just like sunshine will always come after the rain, good will always eventually come.

Focus On the Future
Forget about the past. There is nothing more you can do about it. Focus on the future. Instead of worrying about who did what and who is to blame, focus on where you want to be and what you want to do now. Then… take whatever action you can to begin moving forward towards the future.

Focus on the Solution
Stop talking about the problem. Focus on the solution. Rather than wasting time reflecting on the problem, imagine your ideal outcome. The instant that you put your thinking cap on, you become positive and creative.

Think About This
Everyone wants to be around people who are positive and energetic. You are one of those magnetic charismatic people and no one can keep you away from your amazing future.
